Wait, he brought back one of those dolls!? Oh god, this can't be good! I've been doing some reading about ancient burial practices from around the world, and it was fairly common practice to bury people with dolls or figurines... Totems to pacify, console, or even contain the spirits of those who passed. An item like this with such a strong attachment to its previous owner... This doll must have acted like a tether, allowing a spirit to reach from the astral to the physical plane!
Well, I guess this comes with a silver lining. Now we know that there is a point somewhere on campus where the the rift between the physical and astral planes is thin enough to be broken. Thin enough to even pull someone through! If we can find the place where Arthur disappeared, we might be able to break the boundaries again, and pull him back into the physical plane!
Using the latent spiritual power in that doll, and something with a strong enough bond with Arthur to act as his tether, we might just be able to pull this off! But we need to act fast. The longer we wait, the more Arthur's spirit will melt away, slowly progressing on his journey across the seven planes.

Could Arthur's journal be his tether? Or his charm? If I were to guess I'd say the journal because it contains his thoughts and notes, and is physically bigger.

Yes, either of those could potentially work! Now all we need to do is find this rift between planes, and wait for the right time to bring him back! Seeing that the barriers between the astral and physical planes are weakest at night, I'd say our best bet is trying to pull him back tomorrow evening. That will give us the day to find this place, and prepare a ritual for his rescue. I've been working on something that just might be able to help us out, but I need more time to finish it.

Excellent. I do remember his journal mentioning the football field and the library by name as potential places to stargaze. Could he have ventured there? Also, I know we have a reflecting pool on campus that serves as a memorial, could that place have an unusually weak barrier to the astral plane?
